History of Show Waterskiing
Extremely popular in the upper Midwest and practiced throughout the nation, show waterskiing combines elements from all water ski disciplines. Water ski shows are akin to an aquatic Broadway musical, featuring various acts choreographed to music and built around a theme that tells a story.
Unique to show waterskiing are ballet/swivel skiing, adagio doubles, freestyle jumping, and pyramid waterski acts. Ski show exhibitions involve amateur clubs, which typically have 30 or more members, with some clubs boasting more than 200 members! Age is not a barrier, as ski club performers can range from children to grandparents, making it an inclusive sport where anyone can learn to waterski.
